| Thirteen years since the last revision, brace for paying 10 times higher fine for violating traffic rules. The Union law ministry has given its assent for a quantum increase in fines to promote safe driving and curb soaring road accident deaths. 10-fold rise in fines for traffic violations - The Times of India The primary objective of a fine should be to act as a deterrent and not to be affordable. While these revised amounts seem ok for now, they could be obsolete within the next couple of years. Why not revise the fines to a percentage of the original vehicle OTR price?
